Is Lisa LaFlamme Fired From CTV News? Fans Are Outraged

Yes, Lisa LaFlamme announced her termination on Twitter, stating that Bell Media had made a business decision to let her go.

Bell Media, the conglomerate that owns CTV, stated that LaFlamme was being let go based on changing view habits and that National Affairs Correspondent Omar Sachedina would replace her.

In the video she posted on Twitter, where she detailed the news, LaFlamme stated that she had been notified of the news in late July, but Bell Media had told her to keep it confidential until they had ironed out just how she would be let go. LaFlamme also stated that she was completely blindsided by the news and did not know how to react.

People quickly voiced their disgust at Bell Media once the news broke, accusing the company of ageism and sexism. These charges are very much on point as LaFlamme's termination comes on the heels of her recently winning Best National News Anchor at the Canadian Screen Awards.

In the past decade, the male anchors who have left their jobs have done so of their own volition. For example, in 2011, Llyod Robertson, who Lisa replaced, retired as a CTV anchor at age 77.

Just recently, in 2017, Peter Mansbridge retired as CBC anchor at age 69. However, not only was Lisa LaFlamme's contract unceremoniously canceled at age 58, a 39-year-old man is replacing her.

The accusations of sexism grow stronger and stronger on Twitter, with more and more people pointing out the fallacies of Bell Media's decision.

What Is Lisa LaFlamme's New Job?

Since she has only recently been fired, Lisa LaFlamme has not started a new job as of yet.

LaFlamme's surprise and quiet anger were visible in the video she posted, where she detailed her termination. As someone who has worked for CTV for over 35 years, such a swift and disrespectful termination would anger anyone. And it's Lisa LaFlamme, of all people, the reporter who has had five Gemini Award nominations in the category of Best News Anchor, along with many RTDNA awards and a Galaxi Award.
