INDIANAPOLIS (WXIN) — It’s never too early to begin planning for spring break or summer trips for the kids. For families looking for entertaining, interactive and educational experiences, the U.S. is brimming with children’s museums.

USA TODAY’s 10Best section recently released its list of the 10 best children’s museums in the U.S. and one midwest museum came out on top. To create the list, USA TODAY says 10Best editors narrowed down expert-submitted nominees down to one final set for readers to vote on.

So which museum came out on top?

That would be the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, which was noted for its size (30 acres, making it the largest of its kind in the world) and its number of exhibits. Current attractions include the Take Me There: Greece immersive Grecian experience, the interactive Dinosphere exhibit, and Emotions At Play with Pixar’s “Inside Out,” which explores the role emotions play in our lives.

“We have a true commitment to hands-on learning, where children and their families immerse themselves in interactive exhibits with real artifacts that ignite their imaginations and show them they can do anything and be anything they want to be,” said Jennifer Pace Robinson, president and CEO.

The museum, which houses more than 130,000 artifacts, has consistently ranked as the greatest museum for family-friendly entertainment in the country.

Coming in second was the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. This Pennsylvania attraction was noted for its activities, including the Kindness Gallery, which encourages kids to send messages of kindness to others.
