PRINCE William phoned his mum Diana in distress after Eton schoolboys made fun of topless pictures of the princess on holiday, her pal has revealed.

Vogue publisher Nicholas Coleridge said he had lunch with Diana days after the snaps were published in 1996 - and she told him 14-year-old Wills was "so upset" by taunts over the size of her boobs.

In his upcoming memoirs, The Glossy Years, the magazine boss revealed William was "teased by his Eton peers" and it seemed to focus on the "size of Diana's breasts".

Writing in the Daily Mail, Nicholas recalled how Diana had visited him after images of her sunbathing topless in Spain had circulated online.

According to Nicholas, she said: "Nicholas, can I ask you something?

"Please be truthful. Did you see the photograph of me in the Daily Mirror? The topless one?"

Speaking of William, she reportedly added: "He was so upset. He said some of the boys were teasing him saying my t**s are too small... Are my breasts too small, do you think?"

To which an embarrassed Nicholas responded that they were "perfect", reassuring her "not to worry".

In 2012, Kate Middleton and Prince William had been enjoying a holiday in France when a photographer using a long-range lens snapped images of the Duchess, topless.

The photographs were then published by Closer, alongside an article about the couple under the headline "Oh my God!".

Local paper La Provence also published pics of the royals holidaying in private.

The couple sued the French magazine Closer for £1.3million, and demanded a further £42,000 in damages from La Provence.

In a statement read out to the court, Prince William said: "In September 2012, my wife and I thought that we could go to France for a few days in a secluded villa owned by a member of my family, and thus enjoy our privacy.

"We know France and the French and we know that they are, in principle, respectful of private life, including that of their guests.

"The clandestine way in which these photographs were taken was particularly shocking to us as it breached our privacy."

He also said that the fact that the photographs had been taken were "all the more painful" in light of his mother's death and the harassment she had experienced.
