A Knox County man is in custody after the rescue of multiple animals that were severely malnourished, according to a news release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has been conducting investigations into reports of animal neglect and abuse in the Galesburg/Knoxville area. Allegations led Knox County Deputies to an abandoned residence, where it was observed that a dog was locked in a kennel with no food or water and appeared to be very thin, the release says.
On Friday, a search warrant was obtained and executed by Knox County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and the Knox County Animal Control Officer.
A dog and two cats were retrieved from inside a residence and relocated to the Galesburg Animal Hospital to receive the medical attention they needed. “The animals were found severely malnourished without food or water inside of the residence. It is unknown how long the animals were left alone without proper care,” the release says.
On Friday, the suspect and owner of the animals was identified and taken into custody at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
Christopher Ramirez was charged with aggravated animal cruelty and booked at the Knox County Jail.
