On March 15, 2024 the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office received several reports of a new scam on Friday, according to a news release.
Suspects are calling businesses or employees of businesses and asking for an employee by name. Once they make contact with that employee on the phone they inform the subject that they are a member of the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and that they have unpaid warrants and request them to wire them money to take care of the warrant.
“As usual, these scams evolve, and the tactics/names can change to gain victim(s) compliance. The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that they do not call people and tell them to wire money to them,” according to the release.
The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office wants to inform the public to use due caution and to verify any suspicious/unusual requests and to use caution when sending/giving any personal information or sending any amount of money to anyone you do not know, the release says.
