He began supporting himself.
Every morning before even going to school, he would work at Perkins, where he ran the grill and became a master at making eggs. He named himself an “enologist.” Then, he was a perfectionist in his work. When he began at Perkins, he would make the eggs and another guy would make the omelets, but when people started complaining that the omelets weren’t right, Ruby spoke to the manager into allowing him to carry over the job.
